Out of Storage is the result of a collaboration between Marres, FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais, H+F Collection, Belvédère Development Group Maastricht and the Municipality of Maastricht, and is financially supported by VSB Fund, SNS REAAL Fund, Elisabeth Strouven Foundation, Prins Bernhard Culture Fund and the Province of Limburg.

Out of Storage. Provisoire & Définitif
Largest temporary art museum of Europe set up in Maastricht

Collection FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais
As of June 25th, 2011 (Preview 1 PM / Opening 4 PM)

On June 25th 2011, the temporary museum Out of Storage opened in the beautifully renovated Timmerfabriek in the Dutch city of Maastricht. Hundreds of artworks from the collection of FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais move temporarily to Maastricht: works by Pawel Althamer, Superflex, Andy Warhol, Sol LeWitt, Vito Acconci, Christian Boltanski alongside Hedi Slimane, Atelier van Lieshout, Barbara Visser, Claire Fontaine and Liam Gillick. The Timmerfabriek is part of the historical site of the famous Sphinx ceramics factory and, covering over 5000 m2, it is one of the biggest industrial buildings in Maastricht. Out of Storage consists of a varied program of events, including exhibition, educational projects, research, workshops, debates, lectures and performances.

Out of Storage, a distinctive contemporary art project
Out of Storage offers a glimpse of the dynamics within a collecting art institute and reveals functions that usually take place behind closed doors. The visitor can take several routes through the exhibition, allowing him to share the view of diverse experts in order to gain insight into the various functions of FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais, such as restoration, education, research and presentation.

Why art from FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais?
The collection of FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais is one of the most important collections of contemporary art in France and consists of approximately 1,500 works, of which hundreds will be shown in Maastricht. The collection includes works from movements such as Arte

Povera, Minimal Art, Conceptual Art, New Realism, Pop Art and Fluxus. Out of Storage also includes works that are generously made available from the H+F Collection.  Spearhead of the collection policy of director Hilde Teerlinck is the acquisition of socially engaged art, which encourages reflective thought and the development of a critical attitude.

Who is who?
Guus Beumer is the initiator of Out of Storage and director of Marres, Centre for
Contemporary Culture. He is also the commissioner of the Dutch Pavilion during the upcoming Venice Biennale. Hilde Teerlinck is curator of Out of Storage and director of FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais.

Out of Storage is the first project of Marres Projects. Marres Projects functions as a catalyst for regional and international collaboration and addresses cultural and geopolitical themes in the form of exhibitions, publications and events. The diverse projects are developed in cooperation with cultural institutes, museums, commercial organisations, educational institutes and governmental bodies.

A glimpse of the dynamics within a collecting art institute
Can death, decay and blood indeed be so beautiful, almost seductive?
Consumerist excess and the fiction of economic speculation
Create or destroy
Every bird can only sing what it is able to hear
Health as common good and social capital
How to deal with this new reality?
is the idea of a school still grounded in the locality of a physical environment?
The ultimate symbol of godlessness
Trust me - I'm a designer
We'll be rich tonight!
Without a palace of glass, life is a burden
