The Great Indoors is a biennial event with workshops, an international competition, and lectures that aims to stimulate discussions about the interior, and contribute to its talent development and theory.

The Great Indoors is an initiative of Bureau Europa, Marres Projects, and FRAME magazine, and in 2013 takes place for the fourth time. This edition’s theme 'The Nature of Things' is a study of the material and immaterial developments of interiors within a globalized reality.

With a special insert in its January/February 2014 issue, FRAME Magazine will feature the winners and nominees of The Great Indoors Award 2013.

EDUCATION PROGRAMME
Each edition of The Great Indoors offers an education programme in which design students from Dutch and international schools participate. The education programme consists of a series of workshops, where groups of students, under the guidance of a mentor, work on an assignment for a ‘real’ commissioner at a ‘real’ location.  Click here for the participating schools/programmes.

The Great Indoors draws attention to the latest developments in interior design on a (Eu)regional, national and international level. In doing so, The Great Indoors provides an important contribution to research and education in the field of design in the broadest sense of the word.

Marres, Bureau Europa and Frame are proud to announce that leading tile-manufacturer Mosa will sponsor the 2013 Great Indoors Award.

The Great Indoors is made possible by the City of Maastricht, the Province of Limburg, the Creative Industries Fund and Mosa.

A glimpse of the dynamics within a collecting art institute
Can death, decay and blood indeed be so beautiful, almost seductive?
Consumerist excess and the fiction of economic speculation
Create or destroy
Every bird can only sing what it is able to hear
Health as common good and social capital
How to deal with this new reality?
is the idea of a school still grounded in the locality of a physical environment?
The ultimate symbol of godlessness
Trust me - I'm a designer
We'll be rich tonight!
Without a palace of glass, life is a burden
